Confront

In The Kite Runner page 289, Amir gets completely beat up from head to toe and he felt "healed." This is because he finally confronted his situation of guilt with Hassan by engaging in a fight to save Sohrab (Hassan's child). Hassan fought for Amir throughout their childhood and now Amir finally fights for Hassan.

Inimical

On The Kite Runner page 289 Assef brutally wounds Amir with his inimical punches. These crused Amir's ribs, nose and teeth leaving Amir in a critical condition.

Odious

"The side of my face slamming against the corner of the television stand. That snapping sound again, this time just under my left eye. Music. Sohrab screaming. Fingers grasping my hair, pulling my head back, the twinkle of stainless steal....Sohrab screaming"(The Kite runner 288-289). In this section of the book, Sohrab has to watch the odious fighting when Assef beats up Amir.

In many wars throughout the World's history, different sides have realized that they will not be able to win the particular war that they are in. To protect the remaining lives from being taken, they will capitulate and let their opponents win the battle.
